Use Chrome Extension "URL Rewrite" To Read Seacoast Online

UPDATE: Added another method for blocking
UPDATE: Looks like they figured out the mobile side-channel for some pages and shut it down...all mobile access requires a login now. Lame. But still works for many articles.

Last week marked the start of Seacoast Online's new paywall. Three free clicks/reads a month then you get blocked from reading articles and are greeted with a lovely popup that encourages you to subscribe.

If you use Google Chrome, then a handy extension called Javascript Blacklist can help make said articles a bit more readable.

After installing the extension, add static.djlmgdigital.com to the list of sites that will be prevented from loading javascript elements and you should be able to read all articles again (and in non-mobile view!).

If you use Google Chrome, then a handy extension called URL Rewrite can help make said articles a bit more readable.

After installing it you need to make the fields look like this (click for larger version):

URL Rewrite for Seacoast Online

i.e. The SOURCE (pattern) should be: http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/(.*) and the DESTINATION (pattern) should be http://m.seacoastonline.com/articles/$1.

This will force the articles into "mobile mode" which has fewer viewing restrictions.

Awesome catch!

It worked for me.

There's a Safari version of this Safari version of Javascript Blacklist too.

Of course, none of this is to say that Seacoast Online has anything worth reading...

Very nice Safari equiv as well. I keep forgetting it has a decent extension architecture now (vs having to load nasty, unstable shims in many cases).
